Retail HD TV Wall Case Study |
We have been designing and installing TV distribution systems for many years and have been involved with HD TV distribution from the beginning, with this in mind we were approached by a major retailer. One of their briefs was to provide HD pictures to part of their TV wall for the larger HD televisions, whilst the smaller televisions were to have standard RF pictures, a switcher needed to be provided so that the pictures to the smaller televisions could be selected from either a HD satellite receiver, HD DVD Player (up-scaled) or a ‘Freeview’ receiver.
Once we had confirmed all their requirements we designed a system installed in a lockable cabinet that would provide a HD signal along with an analogue and digital RF signal to the TV wall. In some cases the location of the TV cabinet and the run to the TV wall could be some distance (a few years ago this would have called for long HDMI cables and repeater amplifiers) but with the intervention CAT6 extenders we are able to locate the TV cabinet in a site location remote from the TV wall.
The TV wall itself was straight forward as the first TV walls only had twelve HD points which could be covered by a couple of HD distribution amplifiers, as the TV wall has grown the amount of HD points has increased we are now looking at installing up to fourteen HD distribution amplifiers on one system which was over eighty HD points.
Bigger HD systems are available as in Europe they have managed to provide a HD signal to over five hundred points with no loss of signal quality. |
