All new equipment supplied fromDirect Communications meets the RoHS Directive which covers "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment" and came into force 1 July 2006. These Regulations implement EU Directive 2002/95 which bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
Direct Communications work with Loddon Holdings to control and meet The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) that came into force 2 January 2007. The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve this by making producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment, and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.
Some of the equipment supplied by Direct Communications requires batteries, Direct Communications offers the service of safe disposal of batteries under The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations to anyone who we supply battery operated products to. Direct Communications will dispose of the batteries through an approved company for the disposal and recycling of batteries at no charge.
